A Chicago man has been sentenced to five years in prison after prosecutors say he brandished a machine gun while riding as a passenger in an Uber, which dropped him off in Woodstock.
The Woodstock Police Department responded on June 3, 2021, to an apartment complex on Prairie View Lane in Woodstock for a report of a man with a gun call.
Officers arrived and spoke to an Uber driver who stated he picked up two men in Chicago, prosecutors said.
The rideshare driver brought the two men to the apartment complex in Woodstock.
Prosecutors said the driver reported that one of the men was holding a handgun during the ride.
Officers went to the apartment the Uber driver dropped the men off and identified the occupants.
One of the occupants was identified as Alonzo M. Hall, 22, of Chicago.
Officers searched the apartment and found a handgun in a bedroom that Hall identified as his, prosecutors said.
Prosecutors said Hall also fit the description of the man with the handgun given by the Uber driver.
The Glock handgun recovered was modified in a way to make it fully automatic, court documents said.
It was also loaded with an extended magazine, a round in the chamber and equipped with a laser.
Prosecutors said officers also located evidence in the apartment that related to a vehicle theft that occurred in Woodstock on May 12, 2021.
The incident occurred at a Walgreens store where the owner of a Toyota Camry left their car running in the store parking lot.
They went into the store and when they returned to their car it was missing.
Hall was interviewed about the case and admitted to committing the theft of the vehicle, prosecutors said.
Hall was charged with possession of a machine gun, unlawful possession of a handgun, possession of a firearm with an expired FOID, possession of a stolen vehicle, burglary, theft and possession of burglary tools.
Court records show Hall was charged in a second case in July 2021 with more counts of theft, burglary and possession of a stolen vehicle.
That case stemmed from Hall allegedly possessing a stolen 2020 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck, worth approximately $34,000, and a 2015 GMC Sierra Denali pickup truck, worth approximately $32,000.
Hall entered into a negotiated plea deal with the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office last week.
He pleaded guilty to one count of possession of a machine gun, a Class 2 felony, and possession of a stolen vehicle, a Class 2 felony, in exchange for the rest of his charges and the second case being dismissed.
McHenry County Judge Tiffany Davis approved the plea and sentenced Hall to five years in the Illinois Department of Corrections pursuant to the agreement.
Hall will serve the sentence at 50% in accordance with truth-in-sentencing guidelines. He will also receive credit for 448 spent in custody awaiting trial.
