Duncan Groebe, 64, of Libertyville.

Police have arrested a Lake County substitute teacher after they say he was found in possession of child pornography at his home in Libertyville.

The Libertyville Police Department launched an investigation after receiving a cyber tip from the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) regarding child sexual abuse material.

Detectives identified Duncan Groebe, 64, of Libertyville, as a suspect in the case, according to Libertyville Deputy Police Chief Chad Roszkowiak.

They made contact with Groebe at his residence in the 200 block of Lake Street in Libertyville on September 10.

Roszkowiak said detectives discovered Groebe was in possession of child pornography.

The investigation is still ongoing but it appears the child sexual abuse material Groebe was found in possession of was sourced from the internet, Roszkowiak said.

Roszkowiak said it is too early to say the exact quantity of child pornography in the man’s possession because investigators are still working on the case.

Groebe was arrested and transported to the Libertyville Police Department.

Groebe was transported to a medical facility following his arrest for an unrelated medical event, Roszkowiak said.

Detectives reviewed the case with the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office and an arrest warrant was issued for Groebe charging him with two counts of possession of child pornography.

Roszkowiak said investigators learned Groebe was a substitute teacher for various school districts in the Lake County area.

Groebe was arrested following his medical release and transported to the Lake County Jail on Wednesday pending a First Appearance Court hearing.

The Libertyville Police Department said the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office Cyber Crimes Division assisted in the investigation.
