A Florida woman who refused to return a rental truck to a Woodstock business in 2018 pleaded guilty to theft and received 24 months conditional discharge, court records show.
The plea deal accepted in McHenry County Circuit Court this week allowed Shelly Lee, 49, of West Palm Beach, to avoid a jail term, court records show.
She was sentenced to 42 days in McHenry County Jail but received day-for-day credit for time already served behind bars.
Lee is also ordered to pay $250 per month to the owner of Ralph’s General Rent-All in Woodstock as restitution for stealing the truck.
In total, the business was awarded $2,500 for the Ford E-350 that Lee never returned to Ralph’s General Rent-All on Nov. 3, 2018, as required.
The business sent her a letter demanding the truck be returned by 10 a.m. on Nov. 5. 2018, but court records show that Lee kept the truck instead.
A complaint regarding the truck was signed in McHenry County Court on Dec. 11, 2018.
Lee was taken into custody in June, court records show.
