An Algonquin police officer, several firefighters, and members of the public have been honored for saving the life of a 42-year-old suffering from cardiac arrest.

Algonquin Police Officer Steven Trefilek was presented with the Algonquin Police Department Life-Saving Award at the Algonquin Village Board meeting on Sept. 19.

In addition, several firefighters from the Huntley Fire Protection District, a Telecommunicator, and several citizens were honored for their role in the same emergency, officials posted on their Facebook site.

Earlier that morning, the Huntley Fire Protection District honored Trefilek, along with Telecommunicator Breanna Cube, Algonquin residents Sarah Courtney, Steve Cieslak, Debi Ryan, Lisa Ahmer, and Huntley Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Brian Harders, Lt. Eric Slusin, and Firefighters/Paramedics Dylan Muir, Josh Kaiser, Brandon Roderick, and Firefighter/EMT Carter Fitch for their combined effort in saving the life of the 42-year-old patient.
