A boil advisory remains in effect after it was issued Sunday for residents in Hawthorn Woods, Kildeer and other surrounding areas following a water main break.

Aqua Illinois, a private water provider, said in a statement Sunday that there was a water main break along Midlothian Road south of Krueger Road in Hawthorn Woods.

Crews have since repaired the water main break.

Water service was not disrupted to customers in Hawthorn Woods, Kildeer and unincorporated Lake County, Aqua said.

A water boil advisory was issued as a precautionary measure around 4:15 p.m. Sunday.

Aqua said they are currently conducting water testing and the advisory will be lifted once samples are confirmed safe.

Customers in the affected areas are advised to use boiled or bottled water for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes and preparing food.

Water should be brought to a boil for five minutes and then cooled before use.

“We will provide updates directly to customers regarding the lifting of the Boil Water Advisory through our WaterSmart Alerts,” Aqua Illinois said in the statement.

As of Monday morning, Aqua reported the boil order remained active.

Residents in the same area were also under a boil advisory earlier this summer after a water main break leading to the water tower in Hawthorn Woods.

In July 2023, residents in the same area were under a boil advisory for a week and some residents had no water due to a severe drought in the region and water main breaks.

Residents expressed their outrage toward Aqua on social media on Sunday following the latest incident.

“Village of Hawthorn Woods, the community outrage with the continued trust of our water to Aqua has been clear. The number of main breaks indicates that our payment for overpriced service is not being invested in proper maintenance. Officials need to develop a plan to have municipal water,” one resident said.
