A man admitted to selling drugs after detectives arrested him at Gurnee Mills mall and caught him in possession of a large quantity of methamphetamine, along with other drugs.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Group (SIG) received information in April that Kyle W. Pascaly, 37, of DeKalb, would be going to Gurnee Mills mall in a cargo van, according to Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney Nicholas Shepherd.
SIG learned Pascaly had an active warrant out of Winnebago County.
Surveillance units located the van in the parking lot of the mall and confirmed Pascaly was in the driver’s seat, Shepherd said. Amanda K. Herrmann, 34, of DeKalb, was in the passenger seat.
Herrmann exited the van and began walking to a store in the mall. Detectives stopped her and located several blue M-30 pills which were confirmed to contain fentanyl, Shepherd said.
Shepherd said Pascaly told detectives Hermann had approximately 70 M-30 pills in her possession.
Pascaly was arrested on the outstanding warrant and a bag was seen in the van containing methamphetamine wrapped in individual baggies.
A pouch with narcotics was found in the van, Shepherd said. A baggie with a white powdery substance and a baggie with a crystal-like substance were also found during the continued search of the car.
Pascaly told detectives at the police headquarters that he had been a middleman for five years selling drugs, Shepherd said.
Herrmann and Pascaly both said they sell drugs to supplement their income and maintain their drug habits, Shepherd said. Herrmann said the two of them came to Lake County to purchase drugs.
Pascaly admitted he planned on selling the methamphetamine and cocaine he was found with, Shepherd said.
Shepherd said that Pascaly also told detectives he purchases a “good number” of pills so he does not have to drive back and forth from DeKalb as often.
The drugs were sent to the crime lab for testing and the results showed that a total of 125 grams of methamphetamine, 6.9 grams of cocaine and 1.1 grams of fentanyl were recovered.
Pascaly and Herrmann were charged in late August and warrants were issued. Pascaly was arrested on September 11 and Herrmann was arrested on August 26.
Pascaly was charged with meth delivery between 100 and 400 grams, possession of between 100 and 400 grams of methamphetamine, manufacturing or delivery of cocaine and two counts of possession of a controlled substance.
Herrmann was charged with manufacturing or delivery of 1-15 grams of fentanyl and possession of a controlled substance.
Lake County Judge Theodore Potkonjak noted that Pascaly faces the most serious charges between the two suspects. He is charged with a Class X felony which carries up to 30 years in prison.
Potkonjak granted a petition to detain Pascaly pending trial. “He’s supplementing his income by putting this stuff out on the street,” the judge said, adding that there are no conditions of release considering the man’s history.
Herrmann also remains held in the Lake County Jail after the judge granted a petition to detain her last month.
