Authorities say a police squad responding to a call was struck by another vehicle when the officer turned in front of the car in Barrington.

The Barrington Police Department and Barrington Fire Department responded around 8:25 p.m. last Tuesday to the area of Route 14 and Bryant Avenue in Barrington for a vehicle crash with possible injuries.

Barrington Police Chief David Daigle said the crash involved two vehicles, a 2023 Dodge Charger police car and a 2004 Chevrolet Cavelier.

The Dodge, which was determined to be the at-fault vehicle, was traveling westbound on Route 14.

The officer was responding to a burglar alarm call but did not have his emergency lights or sirens activated, Daigle said.

The Dodge attempted to turn left into a business in the 300 block of West Northwest Highway where the burglar alarm was activated.

Daigle said the squad was struck by the Chevrolet, which was traveling eastbound on Route 14.

No injuries were reported in the crash and the Barrington Hills Police Department responded to conduct the crash report.

Both vehicles involved in the crash had to be towed from the scene.

The officer involved has returned to work and a committee that reviews village vehicle crashes is reviewing the incident.
