Authorities say a Grayslake woman was killed when she crashed into the rear of a semi-truck at a rest stop along Interstate 90 in northwest Indiana.
The Indiana State Police responded around 2:30 p.m. Sunday to the Wilbur Shaw Travel Plaza in Rolling Prairie, Indiana for a report of a vehicle crash with injuries.
The crash occurred on the westbound side of the rest area off of Interstate 90 at the 56 mile marker.
The rest stop is located in LaPorte County east of the LaPorte exit.
Troopers arrived and located a Toyota Rav4 that had driven under a semi-truck trailer that was parked in the truck lot.
The driver of the Toyota was located deceased in their vehicle, according to the state police.
The driver of the semi was uninjured. He was in the sleeper area of the cab at the time of the crash.
An initial investigation shows the Toyota entered the rest area at a high rate of speed, state police said.
For an unknown reason, the Toyota veered into the trailer of the parked semi-truck.
The LaPorte County Coroner’s Office identified the deceased victim as Marcie Rodriguez, 73, of Grayslake.
Alcohol and drugs are not believed to be a factor in the crash, state police said.
The Indiana State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division assisted in the crash investigation.
