A motorhome caught on fire and became fully engulfed in flames before spreading to a house near Spring Grove Tuesday afternoon, fire officials said.
The Fox Lake Fire Protection District responded around 3:50 p.m. Tuesday to the 37700 block of North Jeanette Court in unincorporated Spring Grove for a report of a structure fire.
Responding fire crews reported seeing a large column of smoke in the distance.
Fox Lake Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Tom Preidis said crews arrived to find a motorhome on fire.
The motorhome, which was parked in the driveway of a residence, was fully engulfed in flames.
The fire was spreading to the home and firefighters began working to extinguish the fire.
The residents were home at the home and escaped safely before firefighters arrived, Preidis said.
The Wauconda, Spring Grove, Round Lake and McHenry fire departments assisted at the scene.
Preidis said the home is located in an area that does not have fire hydrants and fire department tender trucks had to haul water to the scene.
The home sustained damage, including melted siding, but remains habitable. No injuries were reported, Preidis said.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Fox Lake Fire Protection District.
