Police and DCFS say they are conducting a child abuse investigation at a private school in Kildeer after a 3-year-old child was found with suspicious injuries.

The Kildeer Police Department received a report of possible child abuse on September 18.

The reporting party reported the incident occurred the previous day on September 17 at Guidepost Montessori at Deer Park, 20786 North Quentin Road in Kildeer.

Kildeer Police Chief Steve Balinski said the incident involved a young child who was enrolled at the school.

The child was examined at a nearby hospital on September 18 and the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) was notified.

Balinski said his department will be working closely with DCFS on the investigation.

“The Kildeer Police Department treats any report of child abuse very seriously and we will utilize every resource available to our Village in determining the factors related to this investigation,” Balinski said.

The police chief said the school has been open since October 2022 and this is the first report received by his department regarding a child abuse incident at the location.

The victim’s mother told NBC Chicago that her 3-year-old had bruising to his ear and arms after being at the school.

Staff at the hospital said they believed an adult had caused the injuries.

The parents of the child have since removed their child from the school and are seeking answers on what occurred, NBC reported.

Guidepost Montessori did not immediately return a request for comment from Lake and McHenry County Scanner.
