Said Marco Bernal-Granados, 35, of Huntley.

A Huntley man has been sentenced to 18 days in jail after a judge found him guilty of pulling the hair out of a child, who was under the age of 13, causing injury.

Said Marco Bernal-Granados, 35, of Huntley, was charged in September 2021 with aggravated battery to a child causing great bodily harm, a Class 3 felony, and two counts of domestic battery.

A criminal complaint filed in McHenry County Circuit Court said Bernal-Granados made physical contact and caused bodily harm to a child.

Bernal-Granados grabbed the child’s hair with both hands and pulled it out, the complaint said.

The incident happened on September 23, 2021, and police officials confirmed the child suffered injury.

Police said the victim was related to the suspect but did not disclose the relationship.

Officers with the Huntley Police Department arrested Bernal-Granados at his residence on Dunhill Drive, a police report shows.

Bernal-Granados was transported to the McHenry County Jail where he was released after posting 10% of a $30,000 bond.

McHenry County Judge Mark Gerhardt found Bernal-Granados guilty of all three charges following a bench trial in May, saying that prosecutors proved the charges beyond a reasonable doubt.

A sentencing hearing was held on Friday and the judge sentenced the man to 18 days in the county jail, 100 hours of public service and two years of probation.

Bernal-Granados was also ordered to attend a parenting class and obtain an anger management evaluation.

He will serve his jail time on the weekends, according to a sentencing order.
