Authorities say a driver lost control of his pickup truck and drove off the roadway, snapping a pole in half and causing the truck to roll over near Harvard.
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office and Harvard Fire Protection District responded around 7 a.m. Tuesday to the area of South Oak Grove Road and Norma Lane in unincorporated Harvard for a report of a vehicle crash.
Deputies arrived to find a single-vehicle crash involving a 2001 Ford Ranger, driven by a 40-year-old man.
The driver told deputies he was driving northeast on Oak Grove Road when he lost control of the vehicle for unknown reasons, sheriff’s officials said.
The Ford went off of the roadway and entered the ditch line.
Sheriff’s officials said the front of the Ford struck a utility pole and the pole snapped, resulting in the vehicle rolling over onto its passenger side.
Paramedics evaluated the driver of the Ford and he declined transport to the hospital.
ComEd was notified and responded to the scene to repair the damaged pole and the wires that were brought down. A tow truck removed the Ford from the scene.
Deputies cited the driver for improper lane usage, failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash, driving without a valid driver’s license and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.
Oak Grove Road was shut down for over five hours due to the crash, which left power lines hanging over the roadway.
ComEd remained at the scene performing repairs into the afternoon.
