A woman suffered serious injuries and had to be flown to the hospital after she was involved in a t-bone crash that left her trapped in her car in Wonder Lake.
The Wonder Lake Fire Protection District and Woodstock Fire/Rescue Districts responded around 10:35 a.m. Sunday to the area of Thompson Road and Sunset Drive in Wonder Lake for a report of a vehicle crash with entrapment.
Wonder Lake Fire Chief Mike Weber said crews arrived to find a two-vehicle crash with heavy damage.
The crash occurred in the intersection and was a t-bone-style collision.
The driver of the SUV, an adult female, was trapped inside her car, Weber said.
The woman’s car door sustained a 10-12-inch intrusion from the impact.
Weber said firefighters worked for five to 10 minutes to free the woman and she was brought to an awaiting ambulance.
A Mercyhealth REACT helicopter was called to the incident and landed at the baseball fields at Jacobson Park near Thompson Road and Wondermere Road.
The ambulance transferred the woman to the helicopter, which flew her to a trauma center, Weber said.
The driver of the second vehicle involved suffered minor injuries but declined transport to the hospital.
Both drivers were the sole occupants of their cars.
Thompson Road was shut down for approximately 30 minutes until tow trucks could remove the vehicles.
