A 21-year-old man was killed after he reportedly fled from police and was later ejected and trapped in a rollover crash in North Chicago Tuesday evening.

The North Chicago Police Department, North Chicago Fire Department and Lake Bluff Fire Department responded around 11:40 p.m. Tuesday to the area of 24th Street and Bobby Thompson Expressway for a vehicle crash with injuries.

Officers found a single-vehicle crash off of the roadway with one victim severely injured.

The driver, who was the sole occupant, was trapped underneath his vehicle that had rolled over.

Paramedics pronounced the driver dead at the scene, according to the Lake County Coroner’s Office.

Lake County Chief Deputy Coroner Steve Newton said the victim is a 21-year-old Waukegan man.

An autopsy was expected to be performed on the man on Wednesday.

His identity is being withheld until after the autopsy is completed and his next of kin has been notified.

Multiple sources told Lake and McHenry County Scanner that the vehicle was wanted after it fled from officers prior to the crash. Police were not actively chasing him at the time of the collision.

The Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) responded to the scene and is leading the investigation.

The City of North Chicago did not release details on the incident and deferred comment to MCAT.
