Lake Bluff Village Administrator Drew Irvin said the driver of the Volvo mistook the gas for the brake.

The car, which was pulling into the driveway, accelerated into the home instead of stopping, Irvin said.

The Volvo struck the front of the residence adjacent to the front door. The car went through a brick wall and windows.
