Three people were sent to the hospital after they were wounded in a shooting at a residence across from an elementary school in Waukegan Wednesday evening.

The Waukegan Fire Department and Waukegan Police Department responded around 9:33 p.m. Wednesday to the 1000 block of North Jackson Street for a report of a shooting.

Officers arrived and found three people had been shot, according to Waukegan Deputy Police Chief Scott Chastain.

Three ambulances were called and transported the victims to local hospitals.

Chastain said all three victims were shot in their legs. Their conditions were stabilized at the hospital.

The three victims were uncooperative with investigators and lied about where the shooting happened.

Officers believe the shooting occurred in their basement based on evidence and it may have been an accidental discharge incident, Chastain said.
