An attached garage fire caused significant damage to a home and also damaged a neighboring home in Lindenhurst Wednesday evening, fire officials said.
The Lake Villa Fire Protection District and Lindenhurst Police Department responded around 10:25 p.m. Wednesday to the 2100 block of Meadow Drive in Lindenhurst for a report of a structure fire.
Firefighters arrived within minutes and found an attached garage that was well-involved in flames, Lake Villa Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Kevin Johnson said at the scene.
The fire was also threatening the neighboring house to the east.
Residents of both homes were able to escape without injury.
Crews pulled hose lines, attacked the fire and pushed into the interior of the principal house on fire, Johnson said.
A fire hydrant was conveniently located in front of the home for firefighters to establish a positive water supply.
A total of three hose lines were used to fight the fire, Johnson said.
The fire was brought under control within an hour after firefighters arrived.
No one was injured.
Johnson said the principal home on fire sustained “significant damage” and is uninhabitable.
A car in the garage was destroyed and two SUVs in the driveway were damaged.
The neighboring home sustained exterior damage to its siding and broken windows due to the heat from the fire, but there was no interior damage, Johnson added.
No other homes were damaged by the blaze.
Johnson said that fire operations “worked out well,” part of which he credits to the conveniently located fire hydrant.
The fire was extinguished at around 11:40 p.m. and crews remained on the scene for overhaul and salvage operations.
A technician from North Shore Gas responded to the scene and electricity to the principal home on fire was remotely shut off by ComEd, Johnson said.
A cause of fire or damage estimate was not immediately available late Wednesday evening, although the fire appears to have started in the garage.
Multiple fire investigators were on the scene into early Thursday morning looking into what exactly caused the fire.
The Lake Villa Fire Protection District was assisted at the scene by the Antioch, Fox Lake, Grayslake, Greater Round Lake and Newport Township fire departments.
The Gurnee and Libertyville fire departments provided coverage for the Lake Villa Fire Protection District during the incident.
