Kemar D. Bone, 24, of Waukegan.

A man allegedly armed with a gun led police on a chase in North Chicago where he drove through a home’s yard, struck a fence and nearly struck multiple officers.

Kemar D. Bone, 24, of Waukegan, was charged with three counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, aggravated fleeing to elude, four counts of aggravated assault of a peace officer, disregarding a stop sign and two counts of driving wrong way on a one-way street.

Officers with the North Chicago Police Department saw a gray Kia Soul driving southbound the wrong way down Kristan Avenue on September 26.

Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney Dino Katris said Bone was driving the vehicle.

Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the Kia but Bone refused to stop.

He ran a stop sign at Hervey Avenue and 15th Street and proceeded northbound on Hervey Avenue going the wrong way, Katris said.

Officers continued pursuing Bone and he disregarded more stop signs in Waukegan at Washington Park and 13th Street and at Washington Park and 12th Street.

Katris said Bone drove to the dead-end at 10th Court and Washington Park and realized the road ended.

He drove into the yard of a home and officers exited their squad cars while ordering Bone to stop the car.

Bone had his car door open and when officers approached he shut the door and put the car in reverse toward the officers, Katris said.

He completed a series of turns in the yard and drove directly at numerous officers, who had to jump out of the way to avoid being hit, Katris said.

Katris said Bone crashed the car into a fence and broke it, causing over $1,000 in damage, before he fled the area.

Officers canvassed the area and located the vehicle abandoned in the 1500 block of Hervey Avenue.

A bystander told them that the driver fled into an apartment. Officers found a backpack, which contained a gun, inside the residence.

Video footage showed Bone frantically arriving at the house while wearing the backpack, Katris said.

The Glock pistol had a loaded extended magazine. Bone does not have a valid Firearm Owner’s Identification card or concealed carry license.

Bone was just released in late August on pre-trial conditions for another fleeing and eluding case where he had a warrant out for his arrest since 2022.

“As part of his way of showing the court that he could abide by those conditions, he committed this offense with a loaded weapon and almost injured officers while trying to flee from him,” Katris said, adding that Bone is dangerous.

Lake County Judge Theodore Potkonjak granted a petition filed by prosecutors to detain Bone pending trial.

The judge said he found that Bone is dangerous due to his actions in the case.

Potkonjak said Bone put “all of those officers in a position where they could have been injured seriously.”
