Police and an animal wildlife group rescued a young swan after it collided with a power line and was found injured on the ground in Round Lake Beach Sunday morning.
Flint Creek Wildlife Rehabilitation said they rescued a juvenile Mute Swan shortly after 2 a.m. Sunday.
The organization is a licensed non-profit wildlife rehabilitation center based in Barrington that cares for injured and orphaned wildlife.
The swan was sitting outside of a ComEd substation after it collided with a power line.
Flint Creek Wildlife thanked the Round Lake Beach Police Department for contacting them and waiting with the animal until they arrived.
The swan’s injuries were luckily fairly minor and it should make a complete recovery.
“It’s amazing how many larger birds we rescue that hit power lines, sometimes they are fairly uninjured except for some head or body trauma,” Flint Creek Wildlife said. Other times they sustain significant wing fractures.
The group said they have rescued Bald Eagles, American White Pelicans, Mute Swans, Great Blue Herons and Sandhill Cranes that have hit power lines over the years.
Flint Creek Wildlife released another swan from its care last week after it was suspected of hitting a power line.
