Two people were hospitalized after a crash left one car rolled over and a person trapped inside in Riverwoods Sunday evening, fire officials said.
The Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Fire Protection District and Riverwoods Police Department responded around 6:30 p.m. to the area of Deerfield Road and Milwaukee Avenue in Riverwoods for a report of a vehicle crash with injuries.
Fire officials said an initial report indicated someone was trapped in the wreckage.
Fire crews arrived to find two cars involved with one that had rolled over and come to rest on its roof.
The crash, which occurred east of the intersection, left one person trapped in the rolled-over car, fire officials said. Three ambulances were requested to the scene.
The Wheeling, Deerfield-Bannockburn and Buffalo Grove fire departments were called to assist.
Firefighters worked for approximately 20 minutes extricating the trapped victim using specialized equipment to stabilize the vehicle and gain access to the person.
Two adults were transported to local hospitals, Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Steve McCaughey said.
Both victims suffered minor injuries and their conditions were stabilized, McCaughey said.
Riverwoods Police Chief Bruce Dayno said a Chevrolet Equinox was turning left out of CubeSmart Self Storage, 3725 Deerfield Road.
The Chevrolet was attempting to enter the westbound lanes and struck a Pontiac G6, which was traveling westbound, causing the Pontiac to roll over, Dayno said.
