One person was transported to the hospital after a two-vehicle crash left one person trapped and shut down traffic on Route 41 in Lake Forest, authorities said.

The Lake Forest Police Department and Lake Forest Fire Department responded around 12:55 p.m. Sunday to Route 41 and Route 60 for a vehicle crash with injuries and entrapment.

Fire officials said crews arrived to find two vehicles involved with heavy damage.

One person was trapped inside of one of the cars and firefighters extricated them from the wreckage. They were uninjured.

Fire officials said an adult victim was transported by ambulance to Northwestern Medicine Hospital in Lake Forest with non-life-threatening injuries.

A third person who was involved declined transport to the hospital.

Route 41 and Route 60 were both blocked temporarily due to the crash until tow trucks could remove the vehicles, fire officials said.

Heavy traffic built up on southbound Route 41, which was diverted to westbound Route 60.

The Lake Forest Police Department was investigating the cause of the crash.
