A suspect is in custody after he led police on a pursuit in Lake Zurich and Hawthorn Woods and caused multiple crashes before running on foot from officers Tuesday morning.
The Hawthorn Woods Police Department received a report of a reckless driver on southbound Fairfield Road around 8:15 a.m. Tuesday.
Lake Zurich Deputy Police Chief Colin Gaffney said Hawthorn Woods officers attempted to stop the black Hyundai sedan but it refused to stop.
The Hyundai committed numerous traffic violations while fleeing.
It struck lane dividers near the Hawthorn Woods Aquatic Center and officers continued to try to stop the car, Gaffney said.
The Hyundai later sideswiped a car while attempting to pass it on Oakwood Road in Lake Zurich. No injuries were reported.
Gaffney said the Hyundai continued fleeing and was last seen in a subdivision in Lake Zurich.
The Lake Zurich Police Department located the Hyundai stopped near Bristol Trail Road and Stanton Court.
The suspect driver was standing outside the car talking to the driver of another vehicle, Gaffney said.
The 18-year-old male suspect fled on foot into residential backyards and officers pursued him. He was apprehended around 9 a.m. near Ferndale Court.
Officers learned the car, which became disabled at the end of the incident, was stolen out of Lake Zurich, Gaffney said.
Charges are pending against the suspect, who is from Waukegan.
Sarah Adams Elementary School entered into a “hold in place” until the situation was resolved.
