An 18-year-old man was shot multiple times during a shooting in North Chicago in the same neighborhood where a woman was shot a week prior, police said.
The North Chicago Fire Department and North Chicago Police Department responded around 3:20 a.m. Sunday to the 1400 block of Cypress Avenue for a report of a shooting.
Officers arrived and found a man who had been shot multiple times, according to North Chicago Assistant Police Chief Gary Lunn.
A tourniquet was applied to help stop the bleeding before paramedics arrived, according to fire department radio traffic.
An ambulance transported the victim, an 18-year-old man, to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.
Lunn said he did not know the condition of the victim but that his injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.
The shooting was believed to be targeted and occurred while the victim was outside.
No one is in custody and the investigation remains active.
The incident comes a week after another shooting that occurred in the area of Spruce Drive and Mulberry Boulevard in the same neighborhood.
City officials said a woman was struck by gunfire while on the sidewalk and suffered a hand injury.
Paramedics transported the victim to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville for treatment.
The woman’s condition was stabilized and she was later released from the hospital, city officials said.
Lunn said it is unknown whether the two shootings are connected.
Anyone with information on either of the cases is asked to call the North Chicago Police Department at 847-566-6131.
