Residents were able to escape without injury after a fire broke out at their house in Crystal Lake Friday afternoon, fire officials said.

The Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department responded around 1:39 p.m. Friday to the 1000 block of North Shore Drive in Crystal Lake for a report of a structure fire.

Crystal Lake Deputy Fire Chief Rick Kaiser said the occupants were home at the time and called 911. The fire alarm had also been activated.

Firefighters arrived on the scene within six minutes and did not see any flames or smoke from the outside.

Fire crews began investigating in the two-story single-family residence.

Crews found a small fire in a wall. The fire damage was limited to the initial area and extinguished.

The home sustained limited fire, smoke and water damage. It remains habitable after fire crews left the scene.

There were no injuries to any residents or firefighters.

Damage was estimated at $10,000. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The Algonquin-Lake-in-the-Hills Fire Protection District, McHenry Township Fire Protection District, Huntley Fire Protection District, Spring Grove Fire Protection District and the Wauconda Fire District assisted.
