The Richmond Township Fire Protection District announced they are mourning the death of an active-duty firefighter with over 28 years of fire service experience.

Fire officials Saturday evening said it was with “great sadness and regret” to announce that Firefighter-Paramedic James Bove III died on Friday.

Bove “selflessly dedicated” over 28 years to the fire service, fire officials said.

He served the communities of St. Charles, Lincolnwood, McHenry and Richmond.

His highest rank achieved was Lieutenant at both the Lincolnwood Fire Department and McHenry Township Fire Protection District.

Bove was an active member of the Richmond Township Fire Protection District and was working shifts until his sudden medical diagnosis.

Bove served with Richmond from 2002-2013 and again in 2022 until his death.

The Richmond Township Fire Protection District said they extend their “deepest condolences to Jimโ€™s family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time.”

Further details about the services to remember and honor Bove will be announced in the coming days.

Bove’s death is the third firefighter death to be announced in McHenry County this week.

The Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District and the Huntley Fire Protection District both announced the deaths of retired firefighters.
