Police have arrested a suspect and say they have identified over 80 victims who had identification or credit cards stolen during burglaries in the Waukegan and North Chicago area.
The North Chicago Police Department responded around 11:32 p.m. Sunday to the area of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and Kemble Avenue.
North Chicago Assistant Police Chief Gary Lunn said a call was received for a person looking into vehicles.
A subject fitting the description of the offender fled on foot from officers.
The suspect, Antuwan M. Hall, 34, of North Chicago, ran into a residence that was later determined to be owned by a family member, Lunn said.
Lunn said Hall initially provided officers with a false name.
Officers observed a large quantity of stolen proceeds inside the residence.
Those items included identification and credit cards, which led officers to identify approximately 85 burglary and theft victims from the North Chicago and Waukegan areas, Lunn said.
Hall had several outstanding arrest warrants and other pending burglary cases in Lake County at the time of his arrest.
Hall has been charged with possession of stolen credit cards, a Class 3 felony, along with obstructing a peace officer and resisting a peace officer.
Lunn said additional criminal charges are expected against Hall when the investigation is concluded.
