Police say a 43-year-old man died after he was struck by an SUV while crossing the street on Grand Avenue in Waukegan early Saturday morning.
The Waukegan Fire Department and Waukegan Police Department responded around 12:30 a.m. Saturday to the area of Grand Avenue and Berwick Boulevard for a vehicle crash with injuries.
Waukegan Deputy Police Chief Scott Chastain said a pedestrian was attempting to cross through traffic.
The pedestrian was nearly hit by multiple vehicles prior to a 2018 Nissan Rogue striking him.
The Nissan, which had been traveling in the eastbound lanes of Grand Avenue, stopped at the scene, Chastain said.
The pedestrian was a 43-year-old man who was a resident of Park City.
He was transported to Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan where he was pronounced dead.
Chastain said the driver, a 20-year-old Park City man, remained at the scene and fully cooperated with investigators.
The driver did not appear to be impaired but provided toxicology samples, Chastain said.
The Lake County Coroner’s Office has not released the identity of the 43-year-old victim yet.
The crash remains under investigation by the Waukegan Police Department.
