Homeowners have relocated after a fire broke out and damaged the rear of their house in Harvard Wednesday evening, fire officials said.
The Harvard Fire Protection District responded around 9:20 p.m. Wednesday to the 800 block of North Hart Street in Harvard for a report of a residential structure fire.
Harvard Fire Protection District Communication Specialist Alex Vucha said firefighters arrived in approximately four minutes.
They found no visible smoke or flames from the exterior of the two-story residence.
Firefighters were approached by the homeowners and informed that the rear of the house had been on fire, Vucha said.
One of the occupants had noticed the fire and quickly acted to control it using a garden hose.
Firefighters deployed a hose line and ensured the fire was fully extinguished. The fire was brought under control within minutes.
“Fortunately, all occupants had evacuated the residence safely, and no injuries were reported,” Vucha said.
The fire, which was primarily confined to the exterior rear of the home, caused moderate damage.
Vucha said the residence remains habitable but the homeowners sought alternative housing until repairs could be completed.
The Marengo Fire & Rescue Districts, Woodstock Fire/Rescue District and Hebron-Alden-Greenwood Fire Protection District assisted at the scene.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Harvard Fire Protection District.
