Sheriff’s officials say an inmate suffered serious injuries after falling down a flight of stairs at the McHenry County Jail in Woodstock Thursday morning.
The Woodstock Fire/Rescue District responded around 6:50 a.m. Thursday to the McHenry County Jail, 2200 North Seminary Avenue in Woodstock, for a report of a fall victim.
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office said a male inmate fell down a flight of stairs within the correctional facility.
The man was conscious and breathing but suffered serious injuries.
Woodstock Fire/Rescue District Communication Specialist Alex Vucha said paramedics transported him by ambulance to Northwestern Medicine Hospital in Woodstock.
A LifeNet medical helicopter was called and transferred the victim to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville for treatment, Vucha said.
A corrections officer stayed alongside the inmate in the ambulance and the helicopter.
Sheriff’s officials said no other inmates or corrections officers were near the inmate when he fell.
Vucha said the inmate was believed to have fallen down approximately 10-15 stairs.
The McHenry County Jail currently holds both Lake County and McHenry County inmates.
The injured inmate was a McHenry County inmate, officials added.
