The coroner has released the identity of a 19-year-old man who was killed in a shooting that left an 18-year-old man in critical condition in Zion Thursday morning.

An autopsy performed Thursday showed Alexander Bailey, 19, of Waukegan, died as a result of multiple gunshot wounds, according to Lake County Coroner Jennifer Banek.

The Zion Fire Rescue Department, Winthrop Harbor Fire Department and Zion Police Department responded around 7:57 a.m. Thursday to the 2500 block of Gilead Avenue in Zion for a report of a shooting.

Zion Police Department Lt. Derek Zaloudek said dispatchers received several 911 calls reporting gunfire.

Bailey and the second victim appeared to have been shot multiple times and were lying in the yard of the home, Campanella said.

Lake County Chief Deputy Coroner Steve Newton said Bailey was pronounced dead in the emergency room of the hospital.

Zaloudek said the deceased victim was a 19-year-old Waukegan man.

The second victim, whose injuries were described as critical, was undergoing surgery in an attempt to save him, Zaloudek said.

He remains alive as of Friday afternoon.
