Prosecutors say two men participated in a shootout that resulted in homes being struck by gunfire following a fight involving two women in Round Lake Beach.
The Round Lake Beach Police Department and Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District responded around 8:55 p.m. on February 14 to the 1300 block of Melrose Avenue for a report of a shooting.
Numerous 911 calls were received. One 911 caller reported someone had been shot.
Police officials said officers arrived and searched the area but did not find any victims who had been struck by gunfire.
Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney Mary Vukovich said a woman was found with blood coming down her face. She was battered in a fight but not shot.
Officers also contacted local hospitals to see if any gunshot victims showed up for treatment.
Vukovich said the injured woman reported Terrence P. Winslow, 36, showed up at their home to pick up their child.
The woman reported an argument ensued and Winslow started shooting at the house with a handgun, Vukovich said.
Video footage was recovered and a child was interviewed by officers as part of their investigation.
Vukovich said the video showed an adult male, believed to be Marlon T. Coleman, 35, of Gurnee, coming out of the home.
The man was seen going into a parked Jeep and retrieving a gun, which he then fired, Vukovich said.
The Jeep, registered to the woman, was found to have its glove box open. The woman is married to Coleman, who is a convicted felon.
Vukovich said a child witness reported Winslow got into a fight with Coleman and it was “like a war.”
The woman and Terrence’s mother got into a physical fight, Vukovich said.
Winslow pulled out a gun and pointed it at the female victim while she and his mother were fighting, Vukovich said.
Vukovich said Coleman pulled out a gun and Winslow began shooting. Coleman shot back at Winslow, Vukovich said.
Officers recovered several shell casings on the ground at the scene from two guns. Two homes were damaged by gunfire.
Winslow was charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm, felon in possession of a firearm and reckless discharge of a firearm.
Coleman was charged with felon in possession of a firearm. Both men were charged two days after the incident.
Warrants were issued and Coleman was taken into custody late last month. He remains held in the Lake County Jail pending trial.
State records show Winslow is currently considered “wanted – armed and dangerous” and is listed as a parolee absconder.
Winslow was released from the Illinois Department of Corrections just months prior to the shooting.
He had been serving a 24-year sentence, of which he only served half, before being released on May 3, 2023.
The sentence was for a conviction that stemmed from a violent home invasion in Zion in May 2013 where Winslow and two others forced their way into a house while claiming to be the police.
The three, at least one of which was armed, demanded money and drugs before violently attacking one of the occupants of the home.
