Firefighters quickly extinguished separate fires that broke out at homes in McHenry and Woodstock less than two hours apart Friday afternoon.
The McHenry Township Fire Protection District and Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department responded around 12:30 p.m. Friday to the 5400 block of Winding Creek Drive in McHenry for a report of a structure fire.
Fire crews arrived within four minutes to find a two-story residence with no flames visible from the outside, according to McHenry Township Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Ryan Mastandrea.
All residents were out of the house prior to the fire department’s arrival.
Mastandrea said firefighters found a small fire in one of the home’s bathrooms. They deployed a hose line to extinguish the fire.
A search was conducted of the house. No injuries were reported.
The fire, which remains under investigation, was deemed under control within ten minutes, Mastandrea said. A damage estimate was not immediately available.
Less than two hours later, the Woodstock Fire/Rescue District responded around 2:17 p.m. to a report of a residential structure fire in the 400 block of Dean Street in Woodstock.
Woodstock Fire/Rescue District Communication Specialist Alex Vucha said a neighbor reported the fire after observing flames and called 911.
Firefighters arrived on the scene within four minutes and found flames showing from the rear deck of the home.
Firefighters quickly deployed a hose line up the driveway and brought the fire under control within minutes, Vucha said.
The fire was contained to the rear deck, resulting in no damage to the home itself. No injuries were reported.
Vucha said Dean Street was shut down between South Tryon Street and West South Street for approximately 45 minutes while crews worked at the scene.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Woodstock Fire/Rescue District.
