The sheriff’s office says a 56-year-old man was killed after he was driving his motorcycle “excessively fast” and collided with a car in Beach Park Friday evening.
The Beach Park Fire Department and Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded around 11:15 p.m. Friday to the intersection of Green Bay Road and Aviation Drive in Beach Park for a vehicle crash involving a motorcycle with injuries.
Lake County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli said deputies arrived to find a motorcyclist dead at the scene.
A preliminary investigation shows the 2007 Suzuki GSXR600 motorcycle was traveling southbound on Green Bay Road.
Covelli said the motorcycle, driven by a 56-year-old Beach Park man, was traveling at an excessively fast speed, witnesses told investigators.
A 2022 Kia Rio, driven by a 28-year-old Beach Park man, was making a left turn from northbound Green Bay Road to westbound Chaplin Street.
The motorcycle struck the passenger side of the Kia as it was turning, Covelli said.
The operator of the motorcycle was ejected from the motorcycle and sustained fatal injuries.
The Lake County Coroner’s Office is scheduling an autopsy on the victim, whose identity is being withheld.
Covelli said the driver of the Kia and a passenger in the Kia, a 23-year-old Beach Park woman, were both uninjured.
The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Team.
Green Bay Road was shut down for several hours while the crash investigation team worked at the scene.
