Fire officials say residents were displaced after a fire started at a house in South Barrington and sent flames erupting from the residence Friday afternoon.
The Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District responded around 3:15 p.m. Friday to the 70 block of Watergate Drive in South Barrington for a report of a structure fire.
Initial reports indicated flames and smoke were seen coming out of the rear of the home, according to Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District Fire Chief Scott Motisi.
Firefighters arrived and found a two-story single-family residence with flames and smoke showing from the rear.
Motisi said the alarm was upgraded to a Code 4 working fire response and quickly upgraded again through the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) to the box alarm level.
Firefighters initiated both an interior and exterior attack to extinguish the fire while performing a search for anyone inside.
“The aggressive combination fire attack proved successful in nature and on scene crews were able to hold the fire loss to the area of origin and extension that occurred while arriving on scene,” Motisi said.
Firefighters began ventilating the structure and conducting overhaul operations and a secondary search of the home for victims.
No firefighters or residents were injured. The home was deemed uninhabitable due to the damage.
The cause of the fire and area of origin is under investigation by the Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District.
