A driver was rushed to the hospital after being found unresponsive following a crash involving a sign and several cars in the parking lot of a school in Cary Monday morning.
The Cary Fire Protection District and Cary Police Department responded around 9:33 a.m. Monday to Three Oaks Elementary School, 1514 Three Oaks Road in Cary, for a vehicle crash in the school’s parking lot.
First responders arrived and found a vehicle had struck a sign and several parked cars, according to Cary Fire Protection District Communication Specialist Alex Vucha.
The adult male driver was believed to have suffered an unknown medical emergency leading to the crash. He was unconscious and not breathing.
Vucha said the school’s nurse and staff had already initiated lifesaving measures prior to first responders arriving.
The staff applied an AED and performed CPR on him until paramedics took over care.
Vucha said the man regained a pulse before being transported by ambulance to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington.
“We commend the quick actions of the school’s staff, who immediately recognized the severity of the situation and acted promptly to deliver life-saving care,” Vucha said.
“This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of knowing CPR. Immediate action can save lives, and we encourage everyone to learn this vital skill,” he added.
The Cary Fire Protection District said the public is encouraged to sign up for CPR classes they offer each month.
