Four passengers were transported to the hospital for injuries after a school bus crashed into a semi-truck on Route 41 in North Chicago, authorities said.
The North Chicago Fire Department and North Chicago Police Department responded around 4:10 a.m. Sunday to the area of Route 41 and Route 137 in North Chicago for a report of a vehicle crash with injuries.
A First Student school bus collided with aย semi-truck hauling a trailer in the northbound lanes of Route 41 south of Route 137.
North Chicago Assistant Police Chief Gary Lunn said the school bus was at fault. It appeared the school bus rear-ended the semi-truck.
The bus was carrying visually impaired adults to work at Great Lakes Naval Base, Lunn said.
Three ambulances were called to the scene to evaluate the four of the school bus occupants involved.
Paramedics transported the four occupants to Northwestern Medicine Hospital in Lake Forest for treatment.
Lunn said none of the injuries were considered life-threatening.
Two heavy wrecker trucks from Ernie’s Wrecker Service were called to the scene to remove both vehicles, which were not driveable.
Some of the lanes of traffic on Route 41 were shut down until the scene was cleared.
