Police have released new details and say a woman was located after two people were arrested following a report of an armed kidnapping in North Chicago led to a police pursuit and crash.

The North Chicago Police Department responded around 10:30 p.m. Monday to a call from a woman who was on foot and being chased by her boyfriend, who was following her in a vehicle.

North Chicago Assistant Police Chief Gary Lunn said the vehicle was a gray 2010 Mazda sedan and the boyfriend was possibly armed with a gun.

Officers searched the area and were unable to locate the woman.

They did locate the Mazda sedan and saw it fleeing the area, Lunn said.

The woman was being tracked by her Apple iPhone, which was pinging from inside the Mazda.

“Worried about a potential kidnapping, officers followed the vehicle onto southbound I-94 and into the city limits of Chicago where the gray Mazda exited the expressway,” Lunn said.

Officers lost sight of the Mazda.

The Illinois State Police said troopers located the Mazda and a traffic stop was initiated but the gray Mazda sedan failed to stop on southbound Interstate 94 north of Dundee Road near Northbrook.

A pursuit ensued and traversed streets in Chicago’s north side along Interstate 90. Police air units also assisted in tracking the vehicle.

The pursuit ended at the intersection of Milwaukee Avenue and Diversey Avenue in Chicago, state police said.

The front end of the Mazda struck the front end of another vehicle. Minor injuries were reported in the crash.

State police said three people ran from the Mazda and were all taken into custody a short time later.

Two people were arrested in the 3400 block of West Parker Avenue. One of them was tasered by a police officer.

All three were transported to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.

While state police said three people were taken into custody, Lunn said two suspects were arrested.

The woman who initially called 911 seeking help was located inside of the Mazda after the crash but she was uncooperative with police about the incident.

One of the suspects had an active arrest warrant, Lunn said. No charges have been announced yet and it is unknown if any weapons were recovered.
