Jose D. Gonzalez, 21, of Pingree Grove.

A 21-year-old man allegedly fled from police at a high rate of speed before losing control of his car and crashing in Lake in the Hills Wednesday evening.

A criminal complaint filed in McHenry County Circuit Court said a Lake in the Hills police officer received a Flock Safety notification around 9:45 p.m. Wednesday.

The automated license plate reader system detected a white two-door Cadillac driving with a suspended registration.

The officer spotted the vehicle make a turn in front of them and drive at a high rate of speed, the complaint said.

The officer attempted to catch up to the Cadillac and a traffic stop was attempted but the vehicle refused to stop.

The complaint said the officer drove at 60 mph in a 25 mph zone but still could not catch up to the Cadillac.

The Cadillac shut off all of its lights in an attempt to evade the officer.

The officer discontinued the chase after losing sight of the vehicle.

The complaint said the officer soon found the Cadillac had driven off of the roadway and crashed into an unoccupied parked car, causing the other vehicle to be inoperable.

Jose D. Gonzalez, 21, of Pingree Grove, was taken into custody and charged with aggravated fleeing to elude police, a Class 4 felony.

He was transported to the McHenry County Jail and appeared for Initial Appearance Court on Thursday.

Gonzalez was released following the hearing because the charge against him is non-detainable under the state’s cashless bail law.

McHenry County Judge Carl Metz ordered Gonalez to not drive any vehicles while on pre-trial release.

Gonzalez is scheduled to appear for a status of preliminary hearing on November 21.
