Firefighters responded to a condominium fire Thursday afternoon for the second time in two weeks on the same street in Vernon Hills, fire officials said.

The Countryside Fire Protection District and Vernon Hills Police Department responded around 2:30 p.m. Thursday to the 200 block of West Court of Shorewood in Vernon Hills for a report of a structure fire.

Countryside Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Jason Masheris said firefighters arrived to find smoke showing from the second-floor unit of a three-story multi-family residence.

The incident was upgraded to a working structure fire to bring additional resources to the scene.

All residents were out of the building when firefighters arrived, Masheris said.

The fire was located on the balcony of the second-floor condo. It was quickly extinguished with a fire extinguisher and a hose line.

Masheris said the fire was contained to the condo’s balcony and did not extend inside the residence. Some smoke damage was found in the unit.

No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire remains under investigation, Masheris said.

The Mundelein, Libertyville, Lincolnshire-Riverwoods, Lake Forest and Barrington-Countryside fire departments assisted.

The incident comes just two weeks after another condo fire in the 200 block of East Court of Shorewood in Vernon Hills on October 9.

A family was displaced after fire and smoke caused heavy damage to the unit and left a cat dead.
