A Crystal Lake man has been found guilty of public indecency after exposing himself to the same girl three times when she walked to her bus stop in McHenry County.
Juan Mendez-Campos, 50, is facing up to 364 days in McHenry County Jail when he’s officially sentenced on Dec. 6, officials said.
Evidence at his trial earlier this week showed Mendez-Campos exposed and gratified himself in front of the minor as she walked to her school bus three consecutive days starting Oct. 28, 2009.
The incident was reported to the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, and a warrant was issued for Mendez-Campos’ arrest.
15 years later, Mendez-Campos was held accountable for the trauma he inflicted upon the now-adult victim, which still impacts her today, said McHenry County State’s Attorney Patrick Keneally.
The McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office commends her bravery in making herself available to confront her victimizer all these years later, Keneally said. He added the office will continue to vigilantly prosecute sexually motivated offenses against minors in our communities regardless of time passed.
Keneally added he would like to thank the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office for their investigative efforts and Assistant State’s Attorneys Maria Marek and Joseph Tarczon for their successful prosecution of this case, which should serve as an example to all offenders who think they can escape justice.
