Philip John Dawson, 37, of Crystal Lake

A Crystal Lake man has been sentenced to serve 7 years in prison after agreeing to plead guilty to possession of less than 15 grams of cocaine with intent to deliver.

Philip John Dawson, 37, from Crystal Lake, pleaded guilty to the Class 1 felony charge in front of Judge Mark R. Gerhardt on Oct. 29, officials said.

Additional charges of possession of other drugs including methamphetamine and resisting a peace officer were dropped in exchange for the plea deal, court records show.

A McHenry County Sheriffโ€™s Department deputy made contact with Dawson in a parking lot on March 27, 20203, because of a pending arrest warrant.

At the time of the arrest, Dawson was clutching a cigarette pack that, when searched, contained small knotted bags holding a white powdery substance.

The substance tested positive to be 8.1 grams of cocaine, authorities said.
