One person was injured and airlifted to a hospital after being pinned under a tractor and partially submerged in water for over 30 minutes when a bridge collapsed under him near Woodstock.

The Woodstock Fire/Rescue District responded to a reported water rescue in the 3200 block of N. Route 47 in unincorporated Woodstock at about 3 p.m. on Sunday, said Woodstock Fire/Rescue District Communication Specialist Alex Vucha.

While responding to the scene, crews were informed a man was trapped under a tractor after a bridge had collapsed on the property.

The first unit arrived on the scene within four minutes and located the victim trapped partially submerged in water but conscious at the rear of the property, Vucha said.

Firefighters quickly lifted the tractor to free him, then transferred him to an awaiting ambulance.

The victim was airlifted to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.

It is believed the victim had been trapped for over 30 minutes before first responders arrived, Vucha said.

The man sustained serious injuries from the collapse and entrapment, and severe hypothermia due to water exposure.

Due to fluids leaking from the tractor, a minor HAZMAT response was also initiated by Woodstock Fire/Rescue, Vucha said.

Crews placed absorbent materials in the creek to prevent fuel or other liquids from dispersing into the waterway.

The tractor was removed from the creek at approximately 6:00 p.m., with crews completing the cleanup and leaving the scene, Vucha said.
