A family was displaced from their home after a fire broke out in the attached garage of the residence in Lake in the Hills Saturday evening, fire officials said.

The Huntley Fire Protection District and Lake in the Hills Police Department responded around 9:27 p.m. Saturday to the 5300 block of Briarfield Lane in Lake in the Hills for a report of a structure fire.

Huntley Fire Protection District Lt. Stephen Young said smoke alarms were activated in the home and an occupant found a fire in the garage.

Firefighters arrived and found smoke showing from the attached garage of the home.

Everyone was out of the residence when firefighters arrived, Young said.

Fire crews were able to get the fire under control within 15 minutes before it was able to spread into the home.

No injuries were reported by any occupants of the house or firefighters. Pets were also uninjured and able to get outside safely, Young said.

A family was displaced from the home, which was deemed uninhabitable until the electricity and gas could be reviewed.

The Algonquin-Lake in the Hills, Crystal Lake, Woodstock, Fox River Grove and Hampshire assisted at the scene or covered calls in Huntley during the incident.

Firefighters remained on the scene for just over an hour.

Young said damage was estimated at $10,000.

The cause of the fire is unknown yet and remains under investigation by the Huntley Fire Protection District.
