Police issued a community alert warning residents about three suspects approaching homes in McHenry and scamming residents as well as attempting ruse burglaries.

The McHenry Police Department said Wednesday evening that its afternoon shift was working on a few cases involving suspects approaching residences and claiming work was needed.

The suspects will sometimes do some sort of minimal work and request money.

The suspects will also sometimes talk their way into the residence to describe the work needed to be done.

In other cases, the suspects will try to get homeowners outside so others in their group can enter the home, McHenry Police Department Public Affairs Officer Ashley O’Herron said.

Police say the suspects are three males wearing construction attire or bright orange colored shirts.

The suspects are Hispanic and drive a two-door or four-door white vehicle, possibly a truck.

Officers are attempting to gather further details on the incidents.

“Weโ€™d also like to remind the community to never let anyone in your residence youโ€™re not expecting, not to pay anyone that you didnโ€™t hire, and call our agency with any suspicious activity observed,” the police department said.

O’Herron said there appears to have been some monetary loss to residents but it does not appear the suspects successfully burglarized any of the homes.

The incidents occurred in different areas of McHenry and no specific area was targeted, O’Herron said.

Anyone who has been approached by the subjects, is a victim of them or sees anything suspicious is urged toย call the McHenry Police Department at 815-363-2130.
