Sabrina D. Lawrence, 38, of Waukegan.

Prosecutors say a woman hunting for her boyfriend, who she believed cheated on her, fired shots in the parking lot of an apartment building in Waukegan.

Sabrina D. Lawrence, 38, of Waukegan, was charged with reckless discharge of a firearm, a Class 4 felony.

Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney Michael Theis said a resident heard a vehicle making noise around 1 a.m. on October 28 in the parking lot of an apartment building in Waukegan.

The man eventually went down to confront the driver, identified as Lawrence, and asked her to be quiet.

Lawrence reportedly continued to make noise and honk her car horn for the next hour.

The resident was watching Lawrence from his apartment window when he saw her point a gun into the air, Theis said.

He heard gunshots and saw muzzle flashes. Multiple 911 calls were received by police for shots fired.

Officers detained Lawrence and found a revolver in her possession, Theis said. Spent shell casings were also recovered.

Lawrence, who has a valid FOID and concealed carry license, was positively identified as the shooter by the witness.

Theis said Lawrence made a statement to officers where she said she was looking for her boyfriend, who she said was cheating on her.

A gunshot residue test was performed on Lawrence and it was positive.

Theis called Lawrence’s actions reckless and endangered the safety of all of the residents in the apartment complex.

“The fact that this defendant was hunting her boyfriend with a loaded revolver and allowed her jealousy and rage to overcome common sense and gun safety… show that this defendant is dangerous,” Theis said.

The Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office filed a petition to detain Lawrence pending trial.

Lake County Judge Ari Fisz granted the petition during a detention hearing.

The judge noted that Lawrence has a past history of not following court orders and that her actions endangered a lot of people who were home sleeping when she fired the shots.

“That type of judgment, or lack thereof, makes me believe she would not follow court orders,” Fisz said, noting that there were no conditions of release that could be imposed to ensure the safety of the community.

Lawrence is scheduled to appear in court again on November 26 for a preliminary hearing.
