Authorities say an unattended fire pit appeared to have caused a fire that damaged a garage attached to a house in Wauconda Saturday afternoon.
Theย Wauconda Fire District and Wauconda Police Department responded around 12:47 p.m. Saturday to the 600 block of Pamela Court in Wauconda for a report of a structure fire.
Firefighters arrived in four minutes and found the exterior of a garage, attached to a residence, on fire.
Wauconda Fire District Battalion Chief John Spratt said a resident was using a garden hose to keep the fire in check until firefighters arrived.
Firefighters pulled a hose line and quickly extinguished the fire.
Fire crews were able to prevent the fire from extending into the home, Spratt said.
No residents or firefighters were injured.
Spratt said damage is estimated at approximately $40,000 and the cause of the fire appears to have been an unattended fire pit.
Several mutual aid fire departments assisted at the scene. The Round Lake and McHenry fire departments covered Wauconda.
