A Crystal Lake man has been sentenced to over five years in prison for stabbing another man, causing him great bodily harm, during an armed robbery in Crystal Lake.
Jarvoisias J. McCoy, 20, of Crystal Lake, was initially charged in early July 2023 with one count of theft, a Class 3 felony.
A grand jury later indicted McCoy on charges of armed robbery, aggravated robbery, robbery, two counts of aggravated battery and theft.
A grand jury indictment said McCoy was armed with a “stabbing instrument” on August 29, 2022, in Crystal Lake.
McCoy robbed another man of a black satchel purse, the indictment and a criminal complaint said.
McCoy used the weapon to stab the victim in the abdomen, causing him great bodily harm, the indictment said.
It is unknown what was inside the stolen satchel, which had a value of less than $500.
An arrest warrant was issued for McCoy on July 5, 2023. He was taken into custody two days later.
Court records show McCoy entered into a negotiated plea deal with the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office on Friday.
He pleaded guilty to one count of robbery, a Class 2 felony, in exchange for his other charges being dismissed.
McHenry County Judge Mark Gerhardt sentenced McCoy to five years and six months in the Illinois Department of Corrections pursuant to the agreement.
