Jazmin A. Martinez, 25, of Round Lake Beach.

A woman was sentenced to electronic home monitoring after pleading guilty to arson for intentionally setting a vehicle on fire, causing a house to be damaged, in Round Lake Beach.

The Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District and Round Lake Beach Police Department responded around 12:21 a.m. on June 22 to the 1600 block of Grove Drive in Round Lake Beach for a report of a vehicle fire.

The response was soon upgraded to a possible structure fire while fire crews were still responding, prompting the response of additional fire departments.

Officers arrested Jazmin A. Martinez, 25, of Round Lake Beach, in connection with the incident.

Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney Lillian Lewis said at the time that Martinez was the one who called 911 to report the fire, which involved her neighbor’s vehicle.

Surveillance video showed Martinez pouring some kind of liquid on the 2008 Chevrolet Silverado and then setting it on fire, Lewis said.

The fire also damaged a nearby home. Martinez admitted to pouring lighter fluid on the victim’s car and starting the fire, Lewis said.

Officers learned Martinez and the owner of the vehicle had been seeing each other.

The two got into a verbal argument over the relationship before the arson was committed, Lewis said.

Martinez was charged with one count of arson, a Class 2 felony.

Martinez was ordered held in the Lake County Jail pending trial following her arrest.

Court records show she pleaded guilty to the charge against her in September as part of a negotiated plea deal.

A judge sentenced Martinez to 36 months of probation and 200 hours of public service pursuant to the plea.

She was also sentenced to 18 months of periodic imprisonment. Due to staffing issues at the Lake County Jail, Martinez will be on electronic home monitoring and not be held periodically in jail for the sentence.

Martinez was also ordered to not consume alcohol, drugs or cannabis during her probation and have no contact with the victim.
