The coroner has released the identity of a 17-year-old boy who was left to die in the roadway after he was struck by a hit-and-run vehicle in Waukegan Sunday morning.

An autopsy performed Tuesday showed Jorge Carmona, 17, of Waukegan, died as a result of blunt force injuries from a vehicle collision, according to Lake County Coroner Jennifer Banek.

The Waukegan Police Department and Waukegan Fire Department responded around 12:45 a.m. Sunday to the area of Belvidere Road and Fulton Avenue for a report of a vehicle crash with injuries.

Emergency crews arrived to find a male victim, later identified as Carmona, who had been ran over by a vehicle, which fled the scene.

Carmona was unresponsive andย pronounced dead at the scene, Banek said.

Waukegan Deputy Police Chief Scott Chastain said Carmona was riding a bicycle when he was struck.
