A 30-year-old man was flown to the hospital with serious injuries after police say he was hit by a car while walking along Riverside Drive in McHenry Wednesday evening.
The McHenry Police Department and McHenry Township Fire Protection District responded around 5:50 p.m. Wednesday to the 2100 block of Riverside Drive for a pedestrian-involved crash with injuries.
A preliminary investigation showed a pedestrian was struck by a black 2008 Ford Escape, which had been traveling southbound on Riverside Drive near Arbor Drive, police officials said.
Police officials said the pedestrian was walking southbound on Riverside Drive in the southbound lanes.
The pedestrian, a 30-year-old McHenry man, suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
He was transported by ambulance to Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital to a LifeNet medical helicopter helipad.
The victim was flown to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville for treatment of his injuries.
Evidence was collected at the scene, witness statements were obtained and interviews were conducted with the driver of the Ford.
Police officials said the investigation determined the pedestrian was walking on the pavement along the side of the road.
No citations have been issued as the cause of this crash is still under investigation.
The intersection was shut down for several hours and was reopened around 9 p.m. Wednesday.
